This time last year, Haiti-born, Atlanta-raised designer Azede Jean-Pierre was getting ready to make her official debut at New York Fashion Week.
Since then, you would have seen her designs every where – on US First Lady Michelle Obama who wore custom Azede Jean-Pierre on the cover of Essence Magazine’s August issue, on Lady Gaga who wore it while touring in Canada in summer and on fashionista Solange Knowles well…everywhere!
Solange is one of the label’s biggest and boldest fans, rocking both the more mainstream looks like the yellow printed shorts suit she wore to perform at Coachella and the more out-there outfits like the bug-patterned skirt and blouse she wore for a red carpet appearance.
Jean-Pierre, who worked at Ohne Titel and Ralph Rucci before launching her own line, was trained at the Savannah College of Art and Design and her perspectives on what make her designs distinctive reflect her training.
“Fundamentally, they are about cut, colour and proportion and how I realise that technically,” Jean-Pierre told Elle Magazine.
Hence, designs like the stunning white shirt-dress which Solange (naturally) wore to the premiere of Beyonce’s HBO special, ‘Life is but a Dream’ which played with shape and angles and wowed fashion critics.
Jean-Pierre says her label’s goal “is to design special clothes that a woman can cherish and live in.”
She is definitely one we will be looking out for this fashion season!
