Islandista’s Power Dressing Party: A ladies’ lime for a great cause!

Come October 27th, islandistas in Barbados will have a ladies’ lime like no other!

We’ll be teaming up with some of our best and most talented Islandista Magazine-featured collaborators such as I Heart Makeup, Shev Kalekshan, the Daily Cookies and the multi-talented Lauren Austin for a totally indulgent, fun and and glam experience that is in support of an extremely important cause – helping women rebuild after fleeing domestic violence.

The Power Dressing Party supports the Safe House for victims of domestic violence. Entry to the event is completely FREE – we only ask that patrons bring one item of new or gently used (very gently!) used item of business wear. This is so easy islandistas! After all how many times have we bought a dress or pants and then found it was too small/too big or just never found the right place to wear it? And didn’t it always seem a damn shame to have to toss them out?

Now you don’t have to – the Power Dressing Party is going to contribute this clothing to women who really need it – current and recent past residents of the domestic violence shelter who are seeking to rebuild their lives and be financially and emotionally independent of their former abusers.

Too often, abusers wield power over their victims because they are the financial provider in the house. Either unemployed or underemployed, some women feel they have no choice but to ‘take it’ because their financial options are limited.

The Business and Professional Women’s Club of Barbados, which runs the shelter, already provides a support system and mentoring to women who have experienced domestic violence. The Power Dressing Party is seeking to provide another part of the solution by providing smart, classy business attire that will send these women out into the job world with that confidence and extra pep in your step that comes from being well-dressed.

And as they say in the infomercials…but wait! There’s more!

This year’s Honey Jam honeys will also grace the lovely Hempstead House with their fabulous voices.

It is going to be an afternoon filled with fabulousness and we hope to see Barbadian islandistas out in their numbers come October 27th!
