The Sugababes are dead, long live the Sugababes!

Remember all of the passa-passa over the Sugababes years ago? When islandista-by-descent Keisha Buchanan, who was the last remaining founding member of the group, was kicked out amidst rumours of bullying and a mysterious disappearance by her bandmate Amelle?

Keisha was unceremoniously replaced with Eurovision star Jade Ewen…who has now been the one to admit that the band is over.

Jade told Digital Spy:

They had been hinting at getting back into the studio since going on hiatus in 2012 but Jade Ewen (at left) has admitted the Sugababes are over.

This is a tricky one because I don’t feel comfortable lying, saying we’re in the studio recording and we’re going to bring music out next year, which seems to be the favoured line. I think it’s unfair to fans and we should be honest.
The band being over is definitely not my choice. I kind of was unlucky in that I came in [to Sugababes] towards the end of the cycle when things naturally came to the end.
There was so much drama surrounding the group, I think the music just got lost. I don’t like all the drama and the negativity. We kind of fizzled out about two years ago.

Jade went on to add that all of the changes in the band’s line-up over the years (first Siobhan left in 2001 then Mutya in 2005, then Keisha was kicked out in 2009) had taken their toll, saying she had her doubts when she was first approached to replace Keisha back then.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t think the same when I was approached. I was like, “Is this going to work? Are people going to accept it?”’ But I know it’s a brand and the music industry isn’t necessarily about making music.”

Um, ok. She’s probably right because the new look Sugababes were nowhere close to the originals in musical ability.

Coincidentally (probably not), the admission comes at the same time that the original Sugababes Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan have re-formed as MKS and have been getting a ton of buzz ahead of the release of their single Flatline which came out on Friday.

Still sweet? Keisha, Siobhan and Mutya reunited as MKS.
