Islandistas at the Met Costume Institute Gala
Take a look at how islandistas did it on the red carpet at the fashion industry’s biggest event of the year – the Met Costume Insititute Gala. This year’s theme was a tricky one for many fashionistas to navigate, with its “Punk: Chaos to Couture” tribute to Dame Vivienne Westwood.
To be honest, very few got it right, opting safely to go for glamour rather than punk. Among the standouts was Sarah Jessica Parker with an awesome mohawked headpiece by Philip Treacy and a fab gown by Giles Deacon.
Madonna also got it right (of course) since she’s 1)bold enough to eschew glamour in favour of committing to the theme and 2) old enough to have been there when punk was in the first time enough. (It’s true!)
Jourdan Dunn wore custom Topshop – how British!
Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls in Tom Ford and with Tom Ford.
The islandista we only just discovered is an islandista (squeeal!) the fabulous Kerry Washington in Vera Wang, with the designer by her side.
Jennifer Lopez was one of the best dressed in her Michael Kors design, accented with some appropriately punkish hair. We like!
British actress Naomie Harris (born to a Jamaican mum and Trinidadian dad) was gorgeous, if not very punk in this ombre Donna Karan atelier dress with a mermaid train.
Oh dear. Usually we are Team Nicki Minaj, even with her more outlandish outfits but this Tommy Hilfiger cut-out dress did nothing for her short and curvaceous shape.
