One of our favourite fierce and feisty islandistas, Dominican Republic’s own Zoe Saldana has been opening up to Latina magazine about the dark side of her Very Big Year.
As you well know, 2009 was the year Zoe shot into the A-list when she starred in blockbuster movies Star Trek and Avatar. It was a mega, mega, MEGA year for Zoe who was on every red carpet and in every magazine from Vogue to Latina to Essence.
In her interview in the September issue of Latina magazine, Zoe said the stress and exhaustion of all of the travelling for promotional work took its toll on her:
“The year after Avatar was just emotionally overwhelming. I was traveling all over the world, waking up in different time zones. Your body gets exhausted, and by the end of the year I just collapsed.”
She said it all came unstuck when she was in Paris training for her current movie, Colombiana:
“I was in Paris training for Colombiana, sitting in my hotel room, and I couldn’t stop crying. I couldn’t stay awake. I must have slept for an entire month. It took me the rest of the year, even as I was working and shooting Colombiana, to pick myself up. Thank God my family was there.”
